Lyoto Machida upset about Chael Sonnen?s shot at Jon Jones? championship

Former UFC light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida is among the handful of 205-pounders to have been promised a potential shot at title-holder Jon Jones in the immediate future. Machida earned his place as #1 with an impressive knockout of Ryan Bader in August but saw it evaporate when he refused to face Jones on short notice without being given a complete camp to train for the tilt.

Though Machida understood he would likely have to fight again to claim the top spot again because of the move, the dynamic Brazilian seemed to be okay with the notion and open to any challenge including a bout with Dan Henderson. However, what he does have a problem with is Chael Sonnen sliding into the position of a crack at Jones? championship without having done anything in the division.

?With all respect, but for me Chael doesn’t deserve the title-shot. I would like to know what he had done in LHW (before getting it),? wrote Machida on Twitter of the UFC?s recent decision to place Sonnen opposite Jones on the Ultimate Fighter 17 before seeing action against each other in April 2013.

UFC President Dana White?s rationale in putting the rumble together related to Jones? requirement for time off due to an arm injury, stating Machida had his chance but passed.

It is still believed Henderson-Machida will mix it up at some point soon with the winner possibly getting the opportunity to put the entire situation in the past and solidify status as a clear-cut top contender.
