"[Winning over Dana White] was a goal of mine from the very beginning actually. I just refused to be ignored pretty much. I said to myself, ?What would work?' I just thought, 'I'm going to make myself so impossible to ignore and make myself into something that they didn't even know that they needed.' Before I became a pro I was saying that, so when I was training for my pro debut at King of the Cage is when I first said it on camera. I said, 'This guy (Dana White) is going to love me and there's nothing he can do about it.' I was so sure. You know, I never doubted it."
-Ronda Rousey talks to The Orange County Register about her goal to convince Dana White that women's MMA, and in particular Rousey herself, were worth investing in.
Penick's Analysis: Rousey's been a very driven individual, and she's not ashamed to do and say just about anything to put her name in the headlines and to get herself to where she'll be on Feb. 23. But the Octagon debut is just the beginning here for Rousey. It's not surprising at all that she had this in her head from the outset, and she was the right combination of personality and results in the cage to get the attention of White in the UFC. Being able to do exactly what you want, when you want, garners attention in this sport, and that's the ability she's shown thus far.
